" I visited Shanghai Shikumen hoping for some authentic Shanghainese flavors, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations! The ambiance is charming, reminding me of Shanghai’s warmth. We started with the wontons, which were absolutely delightful, followed by some crispy spring rolls. Though the fried dishes could use a little less oil, the taste was still very satisfying. " After hearing so much about this place, I finally visited with my family. The service was a bit slow, but the server was very friendly. The dumplings were delicious, but I found some of my dishes to be a bit bland. I wish there was more seasoning to fully enhance the flavors. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the company and ambiance. " I was really eager to try Shanghai Shikumen, especially after hearing such rave reviews. The meal started off well with an excellent vegetable and pork stir-fry that my family could not get enough of! However, I sadly found that the xiao long bao were quite disappointing. They were not filled with enough soup, which was a letdown given their reputation. Service was okay, but I felt overlooked at times, and the ambiance, while nice, could have been improved if it weren’t so crowded. Overall, a mixed experience, so I would lean towards a 3 out of 5. The dumplings made the visit worthwhile; they were flavorful and well-presented. I found a few other dishes a bit lacking in flavor though. " Shanghai Shikumen is where I take my family when I want to introduce them to authentic Shanghainese dishes. They absolutely love the dumplings, and I am quite fond of the braised pork.
